We have exceptionally wonderful customers. 💛
The customer experiences we read touch us every time. But sometimes something truly extraordinary arrives in the mail. This story came to us completely unexpectedly and unsolicited. A complete, beautifully written story that combines our customer's own experience, everyday challenges with migraines, and scientific insights and research references. We are incredibly grateful for the effort and openness with which this was written. It tells not only about the kind of results you can get with North Ray products, but also about the kind of wonderful and warm-hearted people within our community. A warm thank you, Einar L., for giving us permission to publish your text.
“User experience with North Ray blue light glasses for migraines (Product in use: Kide evening glasses)
Having suffered from extremely painful and disabling migraine attacks for a few years, I can in good conscience support the research findings that blue light glasses help and prevent migraine attacks. Having suffered from long-term, debilitating migraine attacks, I would think with common sense that blue light glasses would help alleviate the attacks or at least reduce them.
I have been working with screens for several years and naturally as a “modern person” I carry a small screen with me everywhere in my pocket, as surely everyone does these days. Not to mention the bright billboards in public places. The general exposure to blue light; in shopping malls, workplaces, schools and the list just goes on and on. Therefore, avoiding blue light is impossible nowadays, as it prevails from households to church pews.
Fortunately, active and ongoing research conducted worldwide has advanced our awareness of the major harms of blue light, and recognition of the facts is growing, and we can state that the harms of blue light are more serious than previously known.
To cite an example, Harvard alumnus Dr. Rami Burstein, a leading researcher specializing in neurology, migraine, and pain research. Burstein has shown in his research that blue, and especially green, light can aggravate migraines. Burstein developed the idea that certain wavelengths, such as greenish blue light, are particularly harmful to migraine sufferers. [Research source: Burstein et al., "Photophobia and migraine: shared pathophysiology and implications for treatment," Cephalalgia, 2010.]
Personally, the blue light glasses calmed my migraine attacks to a significant degree. Whenever an attack was approaching, I would put the glasses on regardless of the time of day and either the attack did not occur or, alternatively, when the attack did occur, it was 80% milder than without the glasses. So the difference in my own user experience is dramatic. The glasses have made my life easier in every way and made everyday life and the times when attacks occur significantly more bearable.
Of course, it must be noted that migraines are also affected by the quality of sleep, which goes hand in hand with the benefit that the glasses wearer receives.
Based on my own user experience and research results, blue light glasses significantly improve the quality of sleep at night, and thus, due to better sleep quality, exposure to migraine attacks is also less frequent or at least less painful.
To support this, I would also like to highlight Dr. Richard Wurtman, an MIT alumnus. Wurtman, a neuroendocrinologist, melatonin, and sleep cycle researcher, has studied the effects of blue light on melatonin production and sleep rhythms. Wurtman, as a messenger, highlighted how artificial light, especially blue light, can disrupt circadian rhythms and sleep. Evidence from his research has widely influenced the adoption and acceptance of blue light filters and night modes in consumer society. [Research source: Wurtman R., "Effects of light on the human body", Scientific American, 1975.]
So, for my part, I dare to strongly recommend the effectiveness of colored blue light glasses in preventing migraines and alleviating attacks.”
